Summer’s here! Time to get out the ice-creams and kick back and relax, right? Well for many that’s exactly what they intend to do, which can leave businesses twiddling their thumbs while half of their clientele are on a sun lounger somewhere hot. How can you make the best use of this quiet time? Here’s some tips:

Training

When it’s quiet, it’s the perfect time to get your staff on the same page regarding anything that may have updated or changed in the previous months. This can be from a particular area of your company (maybe you’ve had a lot of new starters but not a lot of time to get them familiar with certain aspects of the company) to a health and safety briefing, making sure your team is up together with the latest protocols and procedures.

We also recommend training for online security, especially if you have a lot of people working from home and being in charge of their own security and how to better make use of the software like Microsoft 365 which we have lots of articles on over at the learning hub.

Check your tech

Another quiet spell activity, which does tend to be neglected, is an inventory of all the technical equipment you have on and off site. Checking what’s on hand and what’s working like it should will also help you to budget for the coming months by knowing what you may need to replace or fix. You’ll also know what’s working and what’s not, which is always better than discovering it when you are busy.

Have a tidy up

We already know that a cluttered space is distracting and can cause productivity to drop. Using quiet moments to clear up the most cluttered areas will help to combat just that. Clear around your desk and make sure there is nothing covering any vents or fans on your devices.

It’s not just your physical desktop either. Take time to clean your desktop on your computer or laptop. Remove unused or unwanted files and empty the trash, as this will make things much easier to find and use when you are busy.

Having a clearout both physically and on your device, and removing unwanted or unused tech, can give your office a much needed spruce up.

Updates

Talking of sprucing up the place, why not rejuvenate your technical spaces too. If you have a kick ass IT company (like us) you may well have already had any big important updates for your devices. However if there are any smaller updates or things that you would like to change, this could be a great time for you to get these done.

This could be anything from renewing antivirus, to a Windows Update. What’s great is if updates are needed, you will then have time to properly sit down and figure out what’s new, and even, (and this brings us back to) time to do some training!
